“After 3 years, we finally got permission from “Heritage Western Cape” to move the cannon to a safer place on Paarlrocks, approximately 23 meters south-west of where it currently lies.

Thanks to a promised donation from the Stigting VOC, we were able to initiate the canon restoration.

We plan to inaugurate the restored Paarlberg cannon on Heritage Day, 24 September 2021, on its new stand and on its gun.”

The VOC Foundation contributed the following to the maintenance and improvement of the VOC signal gun on Paarlberg:

• Motivation for restoration to Heritage Western Cape,
• Brief history of signaling system in three languages
• Design of the gun carriage from Archive
• Donation of R15 000 obtained from Van Ewijk Foundation
